New York Greek Film Expo: Renos Haralambidis Retrospective
Oct 13 — Oct 15, 2023
As part of the Hellenic Film Society USA’s annual New York Greek Film Expo, a special retrospective of the films of the acclaimed director, screenwriter, and actor Renos Haralambidis, will be shown at Museum of the Moving Image. Haralambidis made his debut in 1987 with No Budget Story, a film that introduced digital camera shooting to Greek cinema, and which won the state award for a first-time director, the FIPRESCI international critics’ award, and the interest of international critics. His follow-ups have been similarly acclaimed, including Cheap Smokes (1999), which is still shown in Athens theaters; the police procedural/romantic comedy The Heart of the Beast (2004); and the quirky road comedy 4 Black Suits (2010). He is currently completing his fifth feature, The Night Announcer, which will premiere in 2024.
