Part of See It Big: 70mm! and Disreputable Cinema
Dir. Walter Hill. 1984, 93 mins. 70mm. With Michael Paré, Diane Lane, Rick Moranis, Amy Madigan, Willem Dafoe, E.G. Daily, Deborah Van Valkenburgh. In Hill’s neo-noir cum outlaw-biker rock opera, fifties nostalgia fuels a futuristic Americana fantasy that’s all neon, chrome, fire, and steam. Blue-eyed, throwback heartthrob Paré is Tom Cody, a soldier of fortune who returns to rescue his ex-girlfriend Ellen (Lane) from the clutches of the Bombers, a greaser gang led by Raven Shaddock (a wiry, ghoulish Dafoe). Streets of Fire features original songs written by Jim Steinman (producer of albums by Meat Loaf and Bonnie Tyler), as well as Stevie Nicks, Tom Petty, and Ry Cooder, and performances by the L.A. punk fixture The Blasters and London new wavers The Fixx.
Tickets: $20 / $15 for MoMI members. Order tickets. Please pick up tickets at the Museum’s admissions desk upon arrival. All seating is general admission. Review safety protocols before your visit.
