Location: Video Screening Amphitheater

Come hear artist David Levine, whose Dissolution is on display in our Amphitheater Gallery, talk with film critic Danielle Burgos (Screen Slate, MUBI Notebook) and Curator of Science & Technology Sonia Epstein. Dissolution is a 20-minute film, projected in a hologram-like form, narrated by a character who has become dematerialized and “zapped” into the artwork, much like the protagonists from iconic 1980s movies and TV shows such as Tron andMax Headroom. The accompanying film series Welcome to the Machine features a selection of films in which humans are reconstituted into computerized worlds. The panel will discuss the aesthetics and themes that underpin Dissolution and inspired the film series.

Followed at 7:00 p.m. by a screening of 1992’s cyber-horror meltdown The Lawnmower Man, preceded by John Menick’s new film Autoextinction
