Dir. Leonard Kirtman. 1972, 87 mins. DCP. With Earle Edgerton, Judith Resnick, Burt Young. A psychopathic killer uses the carousel ride at a Coney Island carnival to pick his victims, whom he then murders and dismembers on the world-famous boardwalk. Directed by cult B-movie director Kirtman, Carnival of Blood debuted as part of an early ’70s summer double feature, and thanks to low production values and deadbeat characters, Coney Island is depicted at its absolute seediest. Young appears in his first screen role as a hunchbacked, facially disfigured carnival worker named Gimpy, improbably injecting pathos into a quick-and-dirty enterprise.
