Summer Media Camp!

July 14–August 22, 2025

Pre-registration for members: March 3–March 16, 2025

Regular registration opens March 17, 2025

Museum of the Moving Image will hold its popular media day camp starting July 14. Camp sessions run Monday–Friday, 10:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m. Children ages 9–14 can participate. Camps vary week to week and can be taken in any combination. All levels of experience are welcome. Your child will receive personalized attention in a safe environment: the average child-to-teacher ratio is 7:1. Please review our safety guidelines.

Summer Media Camp is the perfect way for your child to explore something new, express their creativity, and experiment with digital technology. Under the guidance of specially trained artists and educators, your child will collaborate with other children to create original movies, animated films, video games, and even enter the metaverse! Works will then be featured in a special showcase at the Museum for family and friends. Each child will leave camp with the confidence and knowledge that they created something awesome!

A diptych of images: on the left, two children with long hair hold an orange puppet in front of a green screen in a film studio; they are also on a monitor in front of them, with the silhouette of a child with short hair standing with his back to the camera in the foreground; an older person, perhaps a teacher, stands to the right; on the right side image, a young boy with short hair stands behind a video camera and looks through the viewfinder

Next Generation Animators

July 14–18

Use stop-motion animation to make everyday objects come to life on screen. Working with laptops, tablets, cameras, and crafts, children will work in small production teams to envision, produce, and film their own original animated movies.

Digital Game Designers

July 21–25

Campers will immerse themselves in digital game design and explore what makes their favorite video games fun using innovative software and transmedia storytelling. They’ll remix classic video games by creating new levels, rules, and characters, while getting exclusive access to the Museum’s collection of video games while the galleries are closed to the public.

Virtual Reality Adventures

July 28–August 1(for ages 1114 only)

Create immersive new worlds using the latest moving image technologies. Campers will learn to use virtual reality and augmented reality tools and craft their own unique extended reality experiences. For ages 11–14 only; no previous VR experience needed.

Future Filmmakers

August 4–8

Make your own short film while exploring the Museum’s online collection in a week packed with hands-on video-making experiences. Kids will collaborate in small production teams to create an original silent film that they will write, direct, produce, and star in.

Claymation Creators

August 11–15

Aspiring animators will explore the delightful process of Claymation (clay animation) as they learn the techniques necessary to make their own films. Campers will design and create their own sets, props, and characters to animate their own original Claymation film.

Puppet TV

August 1822

Led by our Puppeteer in Residence, who has appeared on popular television shows, campers will design their own character, experimenting with a variety of styles and materials, which they will then use to produce an original sketch. Drawing inspiration from the Museum’s Jim Henson Exhibition, they’ll learn about the art of televised puppetry.
