See It Big! New York in Film
Sep 4 — Sep 27, 2015
With its grit and its glamour, New York City is made for the movies. A city of contrasts, energy, diversity, and spectacle, it has inspired countless films. Some were filmed on the streets — movies like Do the Right Thing, Taxi Driver, and Sweet Smell of Success — while others were filmed on soundstages, creating a New York of memory or dream, in films like Once Upon a Time in America, The Age of Innocence, and Eyes Wide Shut. What these disparate films have in common is that they are teeming with life, capturing the vitality of New York and reflecting it back in movies that demand to be seen on a big screen.
See It Big! is an ongoing series organized by Reverse Shot editors Michael Koresky and Jeff Reichert, Chief Curator David Schwartz, and Assistant Film Curator Aliza Ma.
