SCREENING

You, the Living + World of Glory

Saturday, Dec 30 at 1:00 pm

Location: Redstone Theater

NOTE: The 12/30 screening will be introduced by critic Imogen Sara Smith and take place in the Bartos Screening Room.

Dir. Roy Andersson. 2007, 95 mins. 35mm. With Elisabet Helander, Björn Englund, Jessika Lundberg. The tragicomic tone that suffuses You, the Living is captured in the Goethe passage that inspired the title: “Therefore rejoice, you, the living, in your lovely warm bed, until Lethe‘s cold wave wets your fleeing foot.” It took nearly seven years to build the wildly elaborate sets, and to finance the second in Andersson’s “human trilogy,” a film that moves fluidly between dream and reality. Alejandro González Iñárritu chose it for his Sight and Sound all-time top ten list, citing the train fantasy sequence as “one of the most beautiful moments in cinema.”

Preceded by

World of Glory
