Working on It (Day Three)

The Working on It program, which offers a lab-like environment for work-in-progress screenings, workshops, and discussions about the artistic process, will take place during the day March 15–17, and is open to the public.  

Day Three

12:00–2:00 p.m.: Reverse Shot Emerging Critics Workshop (PRIVATE) 

1:00–2:00 p.m.: Work-in-Progress presentation (Redstone Theater) 

Award-winning artist, playwright and filmmaker Robin Frohardt presents materials and plans for her current film project, as well as two previous short films, Fitzcardboardaldo and BAG, all made with a unique filmmaking process that straddles the disciplines of puppetry, artisanship, animation, and documentary. Moderated by Curator of Film Eric Hynes.  

2:00–4:00 p.m.: Work-in-Progress screening (Redstone Theater)  

Filmmakers Katie Mathews, Darcy McKinnon, and Robin Schwartz offer a work-in-progress presentation of feature documentary Roleplay. A group of college students confronts rampant sexual violence on their campus, creating a play out of their lived experiences. An urgent coming of age story, Roleplay follows these young adults as they grapple with questions of sex, consent, identity, and power on their path to adulthood. Moderated by Bedatri Choudhury. 

4:30–5:30 p.m.: Live Presentation and Discussion (Redstone Theater) 

Film composer and musician Will Epstein talks with New Strains directors Prashanth Kamalakanthan and Artemis Shaw, delving into their creative collaboration and featuring music cues heard and unheard in the final film. New Strains receives its New York premiere at First Look on March 18.  

Followed by a reception sponsored by Kickstarter and the Sundance Documentary Film Program.
