The Insider

Sunday, May 29 at 1:30 pm

Location: Redstone Theater

Dir. Michael Mann. 1999, 158 mins. 35mm. With Al Pacino, Russell Crowe, Christopher Plummer, Diane Venora, Philip Baker Hall, Lindsay Crouse, Debi Mazar. The infamous, real-life story of the quashing of an explosive 60 Minutes segment on Big Tobacco is the basis of Mann’s most urgent and stirring film. Pacino is Lowell Bergman, an investigative journalist and producer for the famed CBS news magazine who finds Jeffrey Wigand (Crowe at his most sensitive), a former head of research for Brown & Williamson, and gradually convinces him to tell his story. As Wigand suffers the economic and psychological trauma of an insidious terror campaign and Bergman fights to save his interview from censorship by craven network executives, both come to face the insubstantiality of their professional integrity in a bewilderingly compromised corporate America.
