Part of Future Man: Douglas Trumbull
Dir. Douglas Trumbull. 1972, 89 mins. DCP. With Bruce Dern, Cliff Potts, Ron Rifkin, Jesse Vint. Trumbull, the visual effects wizard behind 2001: A Space Odyssey, showcases his frequently breathtaking model work in this science-fiction cult classic. Dern stars as a botanist in a postapocalyptic future, orbiting Saturn alone except for the plants he is charged with tending—the last remaining vegetation in existence—and a trio of irresistibly cute robot helpers. With its impassioned ecological message and often melancholy tone, Silent Running is an uncommonly intelligent and reflective rumination on the Earth’s fate.
Tickets: $15 / $11 senior and students / $9 youth (ages 3–17) / discounted for MoMI members ($7–$11). Order tickets. Please pick up tickets at the Museum’s admissions desk upon arrival. All seating is general admission. Review safety protocols before your visit.
