Polydroso

Dir. Alexandros Voulgaris. 2023. 85 mins. DCP. In Greek with English subtitles. With Sofia Kokkali, Vicky Kaya, Mary Giannoula, Efthymis Filippou. Using a unique directorial approach, Voulgaris tells the story of a woman who returns to Polydroso, the village where she was born and raised, to care for her ailing mother. The ties between mother and daughter grow stronger as they relive past experiences and confront the old ghosts that surround them. It’s rare for a male director to so adroitly capture the intimacy and passion of a female relationship; in the words of the director, this is a story about “tender people in a not so tender world,” and it’s told with humor, lyricism, and honesty.

Tickets: $15 / $11 senior and students / $9 youth (ages 3–17) / free for MoMI members at the Senior/Student level and above. There is a $1.50 transaction fee per ticket for all online purchases. The cost of admission may be applied toward a same-day purchase of a membership.
