Panda! Go Panda!

Saturday, May 28 at 1:00 p.m.

Friday, Jun 3 at 3:00 p.m.

Location: Redstone Theater

Dir. Isao Takahata. Japan, 1972, 79 mins. DCP. Presented in English. Mimiko is a cheerful young girl left on her own while her grandmother is away. When little Panny Panda and his father Papanda stumble into her home, she welcomes them in as her new family. Everyday activities become adventures when the pandas are involved! Directed by Isao Takahata and based on a concept by Hayao Miyazaki, Panda! Go Panda! is a charming early classic from two animation legends who later cofounded the award-winning Studio Ghibli. Inspired in part by Japan’s panda craze, when Tokyo welcomed two giant pandas from China, the film also introduces themes that will recur in future Ghibli films, such as an underwater city (Ponyo), a lovable furry guardian (Totoro), and an independent heroine looking out for the natural world. Recommended for all ages.

Tickets: $15 / $11 senior and students / $9 youth (ages 3–17) / Free or discounted ($11) for MoMI members. Order online. Please pick up tickets at the Museum’s admissions desk upon arrival. All seating is general admission. Review safety protocols before your visit.
