SCREENING

Out of Sight

Sunday, Feb 25 at 12:45 pm

Location: Redstone Theater

Snubbed: Jennifer Lopez and George Clooney

Dir. Steven Soderbergh. 1998, U.S. 123 mins. 35mm. With George Clooney, Jennifer Lopez, Albert Brooks, Don Cheadle, Ving Rhames, Catherine Keener, Viola Davis. Soderbergh’s seductive and sleekly earthy adaptation of Elmore Leonard’s novel offers incontrovertible proof that great actors are underappreciated the easier they make it look. As a career bank robber and a neophyte U.S. Marshal unable to deny their (very understandable) mutual attraction, Lopez and Clooney proved themselves movie stars once and for all thanks to off-the-chart on-screen chemistry and roles that fit them like suede leather gloves. Soderbergh’s adept handling of Leonard’s complicated plot machinations and penchant for dream detours and achronological editing gives the film its standout flavor amidst the era’s overflowing of Pulp Fiction knockoffs, yet it’s the remarkable naturalism of its two stars that one first thinks of when recalling this late-nineties treasure.

Tickets: $15 / $11 senior and students / $9 youth (ages 3–17) / discounted for MoMI members ($7–$11). Order tickets. Please pick up tickets at the Museum’s admissions desk upon arrival. All seating is general admission. Review safety protocols before your visit.
