Saturday, Jun 8, 2024 at 4:00 pm

Location: Redstone Theater

The writer/artist team Josh Trujillo and Josh Cornillon will be signing copies of their new comic book Godzilla Rivals: Mothra vs. Hedorah in the MoMI Gift Shop after the screening.

Dir. Ishiro Honda. 1961, 101 mins. DCP. With Frankie Sakai, Kyōko Kagawa, Hiroshi Koizumi, Jerry Ito, Takashi Shimura, Haruo Nakajima, Ken Uehara, Yumi and Emi Ito. After being discovered during a scientific exploration to the uncanny Infant Island, two tiny twin fairy princesses known as the Shobijin are kidnapped by an exploitative capitalist and forced to perform in a Japanese nightclub. However, the songs they perform are distress calls that awaken Mothra. The beautiful yet devastating monster moth leaves destruction in her wake as she advances on Tokyo to rescue the Shobijin from captivity. With its impressive special effects and vibrant colors, Mothra represents a highpoint in Toho’s golden age of Kaiju eiga (monster movie), with the titular titan remaining as big a fan favorite as on-again-off-again rival Godzilla more than 50 years later.
