Dir. Danny DeVito. 1996, 98 mins. 35mm. With Mara Wilson, Danny DeVito, Rhea Perlman, Embeth Davidtz, Pam Ferris, Paul Reubens. In a simpatico union of two devious minds, director DeVito (The War of the Roses) adapts Roald Dahl’s bestseller about a child gifted with telekinesis. Matilda Wormwood (Wilson) is an extraordinarily bright young girl who feels out of place being raised by histrionically crude, neglectful parents (DeVito and Perlman). But when she discovers that her high intellect also comes with special powers of persuasion, she begins to marshal them against various villainous adults (such as headmistress Trunchbull, played by gleeful sadism by Ferris), and to help herself and her friends triumph over a world unfairly stacked against the small.

Tickets: $15 / $11 senior and students / $9 youth (ages 3–17) / free for MoMI members at the Senior/Student level and above. Order tickets. Please pick up tickets at the Museum’s admissions desk upon arrival. All seating is general admission. Review safety protocols before your visit.
