SCREENING

Kubo and the Two Strings

Monday, Sep 4 at 1:30 pm

Location: Redstone Theater

The September 3 screening will take place in the Bartos Screening Room.

Dir. Travis Knight. 2016, 101 mins. DCP. With the voices of Art Parkinson, Charlize Theron, Ralph Fiennes, Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa. Inspired by Japanese folklore, LAIKA’s stop-motion adventure Kubo and the Two Strings constructs an original fantasy world of monsters, magical creatures, and myths. Young Kubo is a storyteller and musician who wields his shamisen to bring origami characters to life that delight his village, but his life is turned upside down when he unwittingly summons a malicious spirit from the past. To dispel the danger, he must find his late father’s suit of armor, with assistance from a snow monkey and a beetle warrior. Nominated for Academy Awards for Best Animated Feature and Best Achievement in Visual Effects—a rare honor for an animated film—the spectacular Kubo combines physical stop-motion puppetry with innovative CGI. Recommended for ages 7+

Note: if you plan to also visit the exhibit LAIKA: Life in Stop Motion, purchase general Museum admission, and simply request a ticket for the film when you arrive (admission includes a ticket to one regular screening).

Tickets: $15 / $11 senior and students / $9 youth (ages 3–17) / free for MoMI members at the Senior/Student level and above. Order tickets. Please pick up tickets at the Museum’s admissions desk upon arrival. All seating is general admission. Review safety protocols before your visit.
