Insidious
Ongoing
Location: Redstone Theater
Dir. James Wan. 2010, 103 mins. 35mm With Patrick Wilson, Rose Byrne, Barbara Hershey. James Wan gleefully riffs on Poltergeist (amongst many other scary classics) in this breathless possession epic. Wilson and Byrne play the parents of a boy stuck in a mysterious coma who is surrounded by spirited apparitions. When a psychic reveals the child has special powers and has “astral projected” himself into a ghostly netherworld known as “The Further,” Dad jumps into motion and heads into another plane to save his son. Insidious revels in recycling, bringing new life to seemingly every hoary cliché the ghost film has yet produced and in the process pleasurably scares the bejesus out of its audience.
