IndieCade East 2018: Sunday


IndieCade East is the Museum’s annual celebration of independent games and the people who make and play them. The exciting weekend features dozens of new and unreleased games, a packed schedule of talks, panels, and workshops by designers, developers, players, organizers, thinkers, activists, historians, critics, and provocateurs. IndieCade is the country’s premier Festival for independent video games, dedicated to the discovery, development, and recognition of independent designers and developers from around the world.

Sunday Pass (access to IndieCade East programs, February 18):

$45 ($35 students and seniors with valid ID, Museum members at the Film Lover and MoMI Kids Premium levels and above). NEW: $20 day pass for youth (under age 17). Order online.

Exhibition: IndieCade Presents: A Decade of Game Design

Featuring Anna Anthropy, Tracy Fullerton, Copenhagen Game Collective, David Kanaga, Paolo Pedercini, Nonny de la Pena, Jason Rohrer, and Tale of Tales, this exhibition explores how games grew into a bona fide artistic and expressive medium in the past decade.

IndieCade Community Pop-Up

Show & Tell featuring the amazing and innovative interactive work created by hard-working developers in the IndieCade community seeking feedback, playtesters, and those who want to share their next great idea with attendees.

Anna Anthropy Board Game Café

Come and play the tabletop games of designer Anna Anthropy, which explores role play, alternative technologies, romance, and social interaction. Anthropy’s non digital work focuses in the realm of accessibility, alternative content, and games meant to be played in dialogue with oneself or others. Have fun with friends, and get some introspection on the side.

Friends of IndieCade Showcase

A variety of universities and developer teams will showcase new works and works-in-progress. Presenters include NYU Game Center, Long Island University, and Parsons.

Exhibition Tour: A Decade of Game Design with Mattie Brice

Exhibition co-curator Mattie Brice leads a tour, stopping at each featured exhibit and commenting on the arc of that developer’s work and its significance to the larger arc of games as an artistic medium.

Protest Game Workshop with Paolo Perdicini

This workshop with the brilliant mind behind Molleindustria exploring games that protest or games to be played in protest spans the digital and the physical and explores how we represent problems of the world around us in search of real solutions.

Alt Hardware Game Jam with Blinks: Results & Presentations

Celebrate the work inspired by Jason Rohrer, and made using Blinks by Move38. See the brilliance and creativity of the indie game community through presentations on all of the games created in the jam, and culminating with the announcement of the winning games selected by a panel of accomplished game designers.

Play Walden and Night Journey with Tracy Fullerton

Explore the visual work of Bill Viola and written worlds of Henry David Thoreau through the lens of Tracy Fullerton’s game design. Play these two games with their designer, one of independent games’ foremost scholars and creators.

3:00 PM – 5:00 PM

UCB Improv Workshop for Game Developers

Improv comedians work together to create funny and engaging characters, premises, and dialogue entirely on the spot, with an audience watching. In this two-hour interactive workshop, performers from the Upright Citizens Brigade Theater will teach attendees improv fundamentals that double as professional creative skills. Prompts such as “Yes, And” may be used to upgrade creative collaboration, learn practical tools to feel confident when problem- solving, and loosen up creative muscles. Even without being onstage, development team members can feel the same rush from collaboration that comedians do.
