Sunday, May 7 at 1:30 p.m.

Location: Bartos Screening Room

Dir. Frederick Wiseman. 2015, 190 mins. DCP. In English, Spanish, and Arabic with English subtitles. The teeming diversity of Jackson Heights, and the larger landscape of Queens itself, is the subject of Frederick Wiseman’s acclaimed nonfiction epic. As with the finest of his films, Wiseman has created a kaleidoscopic and novelistic view of his subject, here showing the many ways that people form smaller communities within a larger, chaotic world. and paying tribute to the myriad immigrant communities that make Jackson Heights such an extraordinary, singular place. Manohla Dargis in The New York Times called it “a thrilling, transporting love letter from Frederick Wiseman to New York and its multi-everything glory,” and Reverse Shot crowned it as the best film of 2015 in its annual critics’ poll.
