Dirs. Julien Chheng, Jean-Christophe Roger. 2022, 80 mins. DCP. Ten years after the original Ernest & Celestine film introduced the world to the unlikely friendship between a bear and a mouse, the sequel A Trip to Gibberitia takes the duo on a new adventure. When Celestine accidentally breaks Ernest’s beloved “Stradibearius” violin, they must journey to his home country to find the only artist who can repair it. Upon arrival, they are shocked to discover that all forms of music have been banned in this land once known for its musicians. Drawing upon the Ernest et Célestine children’s book series, the 2D animation style adapts Gabrielle Vincent’s delicate watercolors and vibrant lines for an enlightening back story for Ernest told with wit and feeling.

Recommended for ages 6+.
