Daguerréotypes

Location: Redstone Theater
Dir. Agnès Varda. 1976, 80 mins. DCP. A wonderfully intimate portrait of the small shops and shopkeepers on a short stretch of the Rue Daguerre, a picturesque street that has been the filmmaker’s home since the 1950s. Centered around a local magician’s street performance, Daguerréotypes follows its mix of shopkeepers and artists as they move around their street, documenting the world in microcosm. “One of the great modern documentaries.”—Richard Brody, The New Yorker
