Dirs. Mark Andrews, Brenda Chapman. 2012, 93 min. DCP. Featuring the voices of Kelly Macdonald, Emma Thompson, Billy Connolly. Pixar’s first film with a female lead, the Oscar-winning animated film Brave focuses on the rebellious Princess Merida and her more traditional mother, Queen Elinor. When Merida makes an impulsive wish to change her mother she must race against time to prevent the transformation from becoming permanent. Along the way both mother and daughter learn to respect each other’s differences and strengthen their bonds. A great film for Mother’s Day weekend about the struggle to become independent and the love and bonds of family. Recommended for ages 8 and up.
