1974: The Possession of Altair

Saturday, Oct 28, 2023 at 2:00 pm

Location: Bartos Screening Room

Dir. Victor Dryere. 2016, 82 mins. DCP. With Diana Bovio, Rolando Breme, Guillermo Callahan, Blanca Alarcón, Rubén González Garza. Newlyweds Altair (Bovio) and Manuel (Breme) live in marital bliss while Altair works as a teacher and Manuel as a stop-motion filmmaker. Manuel captures an intimate look at the couple’s day-to-day life on his Super 8 camera. Their idyllic life is interrupted when Manuel gifts Altair a small dog named Carlo. Soon, Altair inexplicably becomes distant and erratic, claiming she is being visited by angels. First-time filmmaker Dryere utilizes analog technology and the gimmick of found-footage horror to create warm, foggy imagery that expertly shocks and scares.
