With director Mathew Ramirez Warren in person
Part of the series Changing the Picture, sponsored by Time Warner Inc.
Dir. Mathew Ramirez Warren. 2014. 82 mins. Digital projection. This infectious documentary tells the story of Latin boogaloo, a colorful brand of New York Latino soul. From its origins in the 1960s on the streets of Spanish Harlem, the South Bronx, and Brooklyn to a recent popular resurgence, Mathew Ramirez Warren’s film explores this lesser-known but pivotal movement in the history of Latin music through original interviews, music recordings, live performances, dancing and rare archival footage. Featuring Latin boogaloo legends like Joe Bataan, Johnny Colon, and Pete Rodriguez, We Like It Like That tells the story of a sound that redefined a generation and was too funky to keep down. Nominated for best U.S./Latin film at the 2016 Cinema Tropical Awards.
