The Long Goodbye
Ongoing
Dir. Robert Altman. 1973, 112 mins. 35mm. With Elliott Gould, Nina van Pallandt, Sterling Hayden. With the playfully unlikely casting of Elliott Gould as private eye Philip Marlowe, Altman’s film is both a satire of and an homage to the world of Raymond Chandler, a neo-noir classic that transplants the novelist’s languid vision of Los Angeles to the 1970s.
