Dirs. Phil Lord, Christopher Miller. 2014, 100 mins. DCP. With Chris Pratt, Will Ferrell, Elizabeth Banks, Will Arnett. The best-reviewed film of 2014 so far, The Lego Movie (by the makers of Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs) is an eye-popping, witty, fast-paced, and inventive stop-motion animated feature that promotes a mass-produced toy while at the same time satirizing commercialism. The film follows Emmet, a rules-following, perfectly average LEGO mini-figure who is mistakenly identified as the “most special, most interesting, most extraordinary person” and the key to saving the world. He is drafted into a fellowship of strangers on an epic quest to stop an evil tyrant. Among other things, the film is an ode to creativity and a touching father-son story.
Presented with daily Lego animation workshops at 1:30 and 3:00 p.m.
