EVENT, SCREENING

The Imitation Game

Ongoing

With screenwriter Graham Moore and Janna Levin, physicist and author of A Madman Dreams of Turing Machines, in person. Moderated by Faith Salie

Presented in collaboration with the World Science Festival

Dir. Morten Tyldum. 2014, 114 mins. DCP courtesy of the Weinstein Company. With Benedict Cumberbatch, Keira Knightley. The mathematician and cryptanalyst Alan Turing—who worked during World War II with a motley group of scholars, linguists, chess champions, and intelligence officers—was credited with cracking the so-called unbreakable codes of Germany’s Enigma machine. He was a pioneer of modern computing who also led a tortured personal life, and was arrested after the war for homosexuality. An intense and layered portrayal of the gifted scientist, brilliantly played by Benedict Cumberbatch, The Imitation Game is one of the year’s most eagerly awaited films. The screening will be followed by a discussion with the film’s screenwriter, Graham Moore, and Janna Levin to discuss the reality, the legacy, and the film’s dramatic portrayal of Alan Turing.

The Imitation Game is the winner of the 2014 Sloan Feature Film Prize at the Hamptons International Film Festival. Visit the Museum’s Sloan Science and Film website for more about the Sloan Film Program.
