Give It Up for the DJ!
Ongoing
With director Derrick Pridgen in person
Part of the series Changing the Picture, sponsored by Time Warner Inc.
Dir. Derrick Pridgen. 2015, 120 mins. Digital projection. This documentary explores the central, yet critically marginalized role that DJs have played in shaping the music industry over the past 50 years, by following the opinions and life experiences of some of the most recognized names in the business. Through a series of interviews conducted with music historians, music executives, and the disc jockeys themselves, Give It Up for the DJ! asks what a DJ does to pump up a song, bring life to a party, kill or save a record, and change the course of music history. Featured DJs include DJ Jazzy Jeff, Ed Lover, Kid Capri, Afrika Bambaataa, and more.
This event is sold out. Tickets: $12 ($9 for senior citizens and students / free for members at the Film Lover level and above).
