Full Moon in Paris (Les nuits de la pleine lune)

Ongoing

Location: Bartos Screening Room

Dir. Eric Rohmer. France. 1984, 103 mins. Digital presentation. With Pascale Ogier, Tchéky Karyo, Fabrice Luchini, Virginie Thévenet. In French with English subtitles. New York Times critic Vincent Canby called Eric Rohmer’s Full Moon in Paris “a small masterpiece,” adding “it is small only in its scope, which focuses exclusively on one wonderfully headstrong, positive young woman and her pursuit of an impossible goal.” The late, luminous Pascale Ogier plays Louise, a young interior designer who is bored with the sleepy suburbs and her live-in boyfriend, and arranges to move back into her Paris apartment during the week. Balancing a steady boyfriend in the suburbs with a best friend, Octave (Fabrice Luchini), who makes plain his interest in her, and a bad-boy musician who catches her eye at a party, Louise tries to manage her tangled life in Rohmer’s modern, wry observation of youth and love. Preceded by Finale (Dir. Balázs Simonyi, Hungary, 2011, 8 mins.)
