BlaxploItalian: 100 Years of Blackness in Italian Cinema

Ongoing

Location: Bartos Screening Room

Followed by discussion with Fred Kuwornu and Sheril Antonio

Dir. Fred Kuwornu, 2016, 53 mins. Digital projection. A fascinating look at a little-explored aspect of international cinema, this documentary uncovers the careers of a seldom-discussed group of entertainers, actors of African-American and African descent in Italian cinema. BlaxploItalian discloses their personal struggles, relating their stories to those of contemporary actors striving to find respectable and significant roles. A discussion with filmmaker Fred Kuwornu and NYU professor Sheril Antonio follows the screening and is moderated by Warrington Hudlin, Vice Chairman of the Museum of the Moving Image with Fred Kuwornu and Sheril Antonio.
