Based on the story of the same name by Miguel Barnet, the film tells the story of Manuel Garcia, nicknamed Manolito, who emigrates to the capital from his hometown in the Cuban countryside. Now in Havana, he meets and falls in love with Vaselina, who encourages him to cross-dress and begin a new life as a performer and prostitute.
