See It Big! 70mm
Aug 1 — Sep 8, 2019
See It Big! 70mm, the Museum’s annual celebration of large-format films, returns this August. Widescreen films for wide-eyed audiences, these seven titles demand to be seen as big as possible, and on the enduring 70mm format that offers astonishing detail and vibrancy. The series opens, as it long has, with Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey, presented again in the unrestored 70mm print overseen in 2018 by Christopher Nolan, whose own Dunkirk will also screen in the series. Three films return to MoMI after several years off screen: Kenneth Branagh’s ambitious and underseen Hamlet; Brainstorm, the sci-fi thriller directed by special effects legend Douglas Trumbull, best known for his work on 2001: A Space Odyssey; and Stanley Kramer’s beloved madcap epic It’s a Mad Mad Mad Mad World; and two recent standouts screen in the series for the first time: Alfonso Cuarón’s Academy Award–winning Roma and Steven Spielberg’s Ready Player One.
Tickets: $15 ($5 Museum members at Standard through MoMI Kids Premium levels / free for Silver Screen members and above). Ticket prices reflect the added expense of shipping and preparing large format films.
