Gods and Monsters: Universal Horror’s 90th Anniversary
Oct 22 — Oct 31, 2021
In the annals of horror movies, one company stands out as the epitome of the genre: Universal. The release of Dracula in 1931 launched the cycle of Universal Horror that would make the genre a cinematic staple, and 90 years on, these tales of monsters and the macabre continue to inspire imaginations and fuel nightmares. Disreputable Cinema celebrates this legacy during the Halloween season with a selection of the early, pre-code films that capture Universal Horror’s chilling poetry and artistry, as well as the everlasting contributions of the franchise’s first stars: Bela Lugosi and Boris Karloff.
This series is also a part of MoMI’s ongoing Disreputable Cinema series.
