Curators’ Choice 2024: The First Batch
Dec 1 — Dec 31, 2024
Thanks to a notably strong year for both cinema and television, the Museum’s highly anticipated annual survey of some of our favorite releases from the last 12 months can’t be contained in a single lineup, and thus will roll out in two batches for December and January. Curators’ Choice focuses on work that premiered theatrically (or was initially broadcast) during 2024, while also making room for a few recent films still seeking distribution. The First Batch features a confluence of acclaimed documentaries, including Gotham Awards nominees No Other Land, Intercepted, Union, and Soundtrack to a Coup d’Etat, as well as recent nonfiction works by Deborah Stratman, Bill Morrison, and Ben Russell. The lineup also includes breakout hits Between the Temples, I Saw the TV Glow, and La Chimera, and two new works by emerging auteur Lance Oppenheim, culminating at the end of the month with a holiday week run of Dune Part Two on 70mm. Throughout, we’ll be welcoming filmmakers to discuss their work, with more guests to be announced closer to the screening dates. Curators’ Choice 2024: The Second Batch will be announced in December, and cover screenings for the month of January.
Curators Choice: The First Batch was programmed by Senior Curator of Film Eric Hynes and Associate Curator of Film Edo Choi, with contributions from Curator of Science and Technology Sonia Epstein, Associate Director of Special Programs Sarah Luciano, and Editorial Director Michael Koresky.
