Curators’ Choice 2018

Dec 28, 2018 — Jan 6, 2019

This survey of some of the best movies of 2018 also serves as annual celebration of the vibrancy and elasticity of the cinematic arts. From festival favorites like Western, Zama, and Hale County This Morning, This Evening, to episodic television works such as America to Me, to streaming productions such as The Other Side of the Wind, to theatrical hits like First Reformed, and Support the Girls, and from fictional horror like Hereditary to a real life shocker like Shirkers, a multiplicity of forms and formats nevertheless witnessed a commonality of high quality. And for two weekends spanning the end of 2018 and the beginning of 2019, their shared terrain will be Museum of the Moving Image. In-person guests include filmmakers Steve James, Ari Aster, Zoe Kazan, Robert Greene, RaMell Ross, and Bing Liu, and series highlights include 35mm print screenings of Support the Girls and The Other Side of the Wind, and a full presentation of America to Me from December 29-30, with Steve James and Bing Liu in person on both dates.

Organized by Curator of Film Eric Hynes and guest curator David Schwartz.
