Winter Dreams of Hope: Film Screening and Concert
Saturday, Feb 3, 2024 at 4:00 pm
Location: William Fox Amphitheater
Join us for an afternoon of film, music, and refreshments presented by community partner Emerald Isle Immigration Center, in collaboration with Access Health NYC, NAIF Art Studio, and NYC Care, to embrace hope in the midst of winter.
The event will begin with a screening of Gotta Be Gotta Do (pictured above). Directed by Valeriya Fadeyeva, the film follows brothers Bezalem and Tafari Lemma, first-generation Ethiopian American musicians who hail from Newark. Bezalem composes songs that he accompanies on keyboards with Tafari playing drums. Fadeyeva will join us for a talk about creating the film, and the musicians will join us for a performance.
Following the screening, there will be refreshments in the Museum’s Digital Learning Suite, plus more musical performances by the EIIC Creatives and a digital presentation of paintings by Colombian painter Alejandro Pinzón. The EIIC Creatives encompass six accomplished artists who are the recipients of a two-year Creatives Rebuild New York Artist Employment Program grant to the Emerald Isle Immigration Center. They lend their instrumental music, songs, visual arts, and filmmaking skills to complement and raise awareness about the immigration legal services and social services programs of the Emerald Isle Immigration Center in The Bronx and Queens. The EIIC Creatives are West African multi-instrumentalist and singer Abdoulaye Alhassane Touré, Irish traditional singer/guitarist Mary Courtney, Irish singer/songwriter and guitarist Allen Gogarty, Peruvian American filmmaker Erika Gregorio Lopez, Chinese American blues musician and singer Jeff Lum, and Colombian painter Alejandro Pinzón.
