Location: Bartos Screening Room

With directors Brett Story and Stephen Maing in person

Dirs. Brett Story, Stephen Maing. 2024, 104 mins. U.S. DCP. The documentary that Amazon likely wouldn’t want you to see, this dynamic behind-the-scenes look at the efforts of Amazon warehouse workers in Staten Island is a master class in nonfiction narrative filmmaking from Brett Story (The Hottest August) and Stephen Maing (Crime + Punishment). Allowed access to the unionizing process from the very beginning of their unlikely campaign, Story and Maing follow several months in the attempts of a group of colleagues as they prepare to stand up to the Goliath of the one of the world’s most powerful companies. Despite internal fighting and disagreements on strategy, the group soldiers on. Story and Maing’s film packs a punch in its insistence on the rights and dignity of each worker, empowering amidst a political reality that can make each of us feel eternally outmatched.
