Part of Curators’ Choice 2023
With director Maite Alberdi in person
Dir. Maite Alberdi. 2023, 85 mins. DCP. In Spanish with English subtitles. The latest film by Academy Award–nominated filmmaker Alberdi (The Mole Agent) witnesses the loving partnership of Augusto and Paulina, two public figures in their native Chile (he’s a renowned journalist and TV personality; she’s an artist and former government official), who’ve decided not to retreat into privacy when Augusto is diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. In addition to archival footage of their media appearances and home movies, the film presents them through Alberdi’s camera at home, on walks, in rehearsals for her dance performance (her troupe seamlessly incorporates a joyful Augusto in their paces), and during the isolation of COVID lockdown. Throughout, Paulina recounts and repeats the story of their lives to a partner who’s destined to forget it, though his adoration for her remains. Winner of the Grand Jury Prize for World Documentary Feature at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival and nominated for five Cinema Eye Honors. An MTV Films release.
Tickets: $15 / $11 senior and students / $9 youth (ages 3–17) / discounted for MoMI members ($7–$11). Order tickets. Please pick up tickets at the Museum’s admissions desk upon arrival. All seating is general admission. Review safety protocols before your visit.
