In 2021, evidence of unmarked graves was discovered on the grounds of an Indian residential school run by the Catholic Church in Canada. After years of silence, the forced separation, assimilation, and abuse many children experienced at these segregated boarding schools was brought to light, sparking a national outcry against a system designed to destroy Indigenous communities. Amidst this groundbreaking investigation, Sugarcane witnesses a community breaking cycles of intergenerational trauma and finding the strength to persevere. Debut filmmakers Kassie and NoiseCatthe latter’s family was sent to the residential school being investigatedwere awarded Best Director in the U.S. Documentary Competition at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival, and the film recently won Best Documentary by the National Board of Review, and was nominated for eight Critics Choice Awards, six Cinema Eye Honors Awards, and five IDA Awards.  

Tickets: $17.50 / $12 senior and students / $10 youth (ages 3–17) / discounted for MoMI members ($7–$11). There is a $1.50 transaction fee per ticket for all online purchases. The cost of admission may be applied toward a same-day purchase of a membership.
