Star Wars: The Last Jedi

Saturday, Nov 30 at 6:00 p.m.

Location: Redstone Theater

Dir. Rian Johnson. 2017, 152 mins. DCP. With Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson, Anthony Daniels, Gwendoline Christie, Kelly Marie Tran, Laura Dern, Benicio del Toro, Frank Oz. The second installment of the third Star Wars trilogy, Episode VIII follows emerging warrior Rey (Ridley) as she journeys to find, and train under, the legendary Jedi Master Luke Skywalker (Hamill). Meanwhile, General Leia Organa (Fisher) and the Resistance fleet make a desperate and costly escape from the First Order and Kylo Ren (Driver), whose haunted and conflicted spirit brings him to the brink of exacting a total apocalypse. While writer-director Johnson’s turn at the helm of the world’s biggest franchise was controversial among fanatics, it stands as the boldest, most entertaining, and most inventive installment since fellow middle child The Empire Strikes Back, thoughtfully interrogating the whole ornate enterprise while electrifying it forward. Oz returns as the master Yoda for a standout sequence with Hamill’s Skywalker, a poignant big-screen coda to a partnership forged 37 years prior.
