Dir. Bill Plympton. 2023, 80 mins. U.S. DCP. Songs written and sung by Maureen McElheron. Drawing and coloring every frame of his inventive animated films for the past 38 years, Bill Plympton is a legend in the independent film world. The subject of a MoMI exhibition in 2015, Plympton is returning for the first public New York City screening of his new feature. His most visually stunning work to date, Slide is the tale of a mythical cowboy showdown with eco-villains intent on paving over idyllic Sourdough Creek, just as a caravan of Hollywood moviemakers are arriving in town to make their newest blockbuster, Escape from Ecstasy. The film is peppered with swinging western tunes, with most of the action occurring around the dance hall/brothel The Lucky Buck Saloon.
Plympton will discuss his unique approach to hand-drawn animation, in a post-film conversation moderated by series curator David Schwartz. After that, Plympton will make an individual drawing for every audience member to take home.

Tickets: $17.50 / $12 senior and students / $10 youth (ages 3–17) / discounted for MoMI members ($7–$11). There is a $1.50 transaction fee per ticket for all online purchases. The cost of admission may be applied toward a same-day purchase of a membership.
Order tickets. Please pick up tickets at the Museum’s admissions desk upon arrival. All seating is general admission.
