SCREENING

Rope

Sunday, Jun 4 at 2:45 pm

Location: Redstone Theater

Dir. Alfred Hitchcock. U.S. 1948, 80 mins. 35mm. With James Stewart, Farley Granger, John Dall. Contemporary critics may have all but ignored what was going on between Rope’s Leopold and Loeb–like killers in favor of fixating on its form—a movie told in real time through extended shots and invisible cuts—modern audiences can revel in the simmering erotic tension between Granger and Dall as two smarter-than-thou college criminals who think they’ve pulled off the perfect murder. As their nerves are tested during a dinner party, Hitchcock’s long takes allow the audience to witness a game of tells, not only amongst the killers, their suspicious former philosophy professor (Stewart), and the other dinner companions, but also between the spectators and their relationship to subtext.

Tickets: $15 / $11 senior and students / $9 youth (ages 3–17) / discounted for MoMI members ($7–$11). Order tickets. Please pick up tickets at the Museum’s admissions desk upon arrival. All seating is general admission. Review safety protocols before your visit.
