Queens at the Margins and in the Center: Films by Neha Gautam

In a time of unprecedented inflation, corporate profits, and negative news bias, rarely do we get a chance to celebrate our movement wins and campaign victories as activists who are both immigrants and people of color. Combining labor, migration and resistance, Queens at the Margins and in the Center is a community program featuring screenings of two new films by longtime Queens resident, community organizer, and filmmaker Neha Gautam, Passenger Seat and Two Wheel Nation, and her 2014 short Juana.

The screening—which begins at 5:00 p.m.—will be followed by a panel moderated by Chaumtoli Huq, Associate Professor of Law at CUNY School of Law, and featuring Neha Gautam, Javaid Tariq, co-founder and senior staff at New York Taxi Workers Alliance; Riya Ortiz, Campaign Manager of Damayan Migrant Workers Association; and Ernestina Galvez, organizer from Workers Justice Project and for the Las Deliveristas Unidos campaign.

Attendees are invited to arrive at 4:30 p.m. to view a pop-up art installation in the Fox Amphitheater featuring photographs by Sandra Riaño that highlight taxi workers of New York City and New York Taxi Alliance members who were a part of the historic victory to address the medallion crisis, as well as a comic, created by artist Nafisa Ferdous, that celebrates worker power and the recent win against predatory loans.
