Dir. Roy Andersson. 2014, 101 mins. DCP. With Nisse Vestblom, Holger Andersson. A dour pair of traveling salesmen who sell plastic fangs and other novelty items are the main recurring characters in the finale to Andersson’s “Being Human” trilogy. The brass notes of an oom–pah band hold together the vignettes, which are filled with anachronisms and oddities—such as the site of an 18th-century cavalry marching by a modern-day roadside diner. The comic spell of this mesmerizing film is broken towards the end with a truly unsettling image, a reminder of the history of violence that underlies the veneer of civilization.
