A Pigeon Sat on a Branch Reflecting on Existence

Location: Redstone Theater

NOTE: The 12/31 screening will take place in the Bartos Screening Room.

Dir. Roy Andersson. 2014, 101 mins. DCP. With Nisse Vestblom, Holger Andersson. A dour pair of traveling salesmen who sell plastic fangs and other novelty items are the main recurring characters in the finale to Andersson’s “Being Human” trilogy. The brass notes of an oompah band hold together the vignettes, which are filled with anachronisms and odditiessuch as the site of an 18th-century cavalry marching by a modern-day roadside diner. The comic spell of this mesmerizing film is broken towards the end with a truly unsettling image, a reminder of the history of violence that underlies the veneer of civilization.

Tickets: $15 / $11 senior and students / $9 youth (ages 3–17) / discounted for MoMI members ($7–$11). Order tickets. Please pick up tickets at the Museum’s admissions desk upon arrival. All seating is general admission. Review safety protocols before your visit.
