East Coast premiere of new black-and-white version, followed by a discussion with filmmaker David Chase, executive producer and music supervisor Steven Van Zandt, and actors John Magaro and Will Brill, moderated by Alessandro Nivola

Dir. David Chase. 2012, 112 mins. U.S. DCP. With James Gandolfini, John Magaro, Jack Huston, Will Brill, Bella Heathcote.  MoMI is pleased to present the East Coast premiere of the black-and-white version of The Sopranos creator David Chase’s deeply personal, coming-of-age drama Not Fade Away. It’s the 1960s and British music is changing the world. Inspired by a bold new era and his success in a local band, Douglas (Magaro) drops out of college to pursue his musical dreams, much to the anger of his father (Gandolfini). When Gene (Huston), the band’s lead singer, has a mishap that temporarily knocks him out as frontman, Doug takes over. The band’s new sound is a hit with the local crowd, leading to Gene’s resentment. Faced with the harsh realities of the music industry, Douglas is forced to choose between listening to his father or listening to his heart. With its precise period detail and good-natured yet pragmatic look back at a decade in which the counterculture was ascendant even in the suburbs, Chase’s film feels more meaningful with each passing year.

Tickets: $25 (25% off for MoMI members). There is a $1.50 transaction fee per ticket for all online purchases. The cost of admission may be applied toward a same-day purchase of a membership.
