Martin Luther King, Jr. Family Day 2025

Sunday, Jan 19, 2025 at 2:00 pm

Location: Digital Learning Suite

Join us in celebrating the birthday of civil rights activist Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with a talk, tours, digital media-making activities, and more. The courageous advocacy of King and his collaborators led to the historic 1963 March on Washington, which called for an end to racial discrimination and the passing of the Civil Rights Act. The Civil Rights Act of 1964 ended segregation in public places and prohibited employment discrimination.

Visitors are invited to join a thoughtful conversation with local teen advocates about conflict resolution in collaboration with MoMI community partner Urban Upbound; create animations and immersive, virtual reality drawings inspired by the work of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.; join a Museum tour; or participate in a scavenger hunt game inside the Museum’s Behind the Screen exhibition, discovering the connections between moving image history and Black people’s fight for freedom during the Civil Rights Movement.

Recommended for all ages.

Free with Museum admission.
