Director Sofia Bohdanowicz and actors Melanie Scheiner and Rosa-Johan Uddoh in person

Dir. Sofia Bohdanowicz. 2024, 142 min. Canada/U.K./Norway. DCP. With Deragh Campbell, Marìa Dueñas, Melanie Scheiner. Haunted by the present while chasing echoes of the past, PhD candidate Audrey (Campbell) journeys from Toronto to London to Oslo to research the life of forgotten Canadian violinist Kathleen Parlow while fever-dream calls from her dying mother (herself a failed violinist) go to voicemail. The latest from singular artist Bohdanowicz richly blends family history with archival research, distinctly gothic storytelling, and another memorable collaboration with frequent muse Campbell. Establishing its own tone, pace, and dramatic language, Measures for a Funeral arrives at a final movement that’s bold yet entirely earned, powerfully transforming the various modes of cinema it plays within. U.S. premiere
