Part of MoMI Loves
Dir. Sofia Coppola. 2003, 101 mins. 35mm. With Bill Murray, Scarlett Johansson, Giovanni Ribisi. Coppola’s confident follow–up to The Virgin Suicides concerns the relationship between an aging movie star (Murray) and a newly married twenty–something (Johansson in her breakout performance), who meet at a lofty hotel bar in Tokyo. Deploying, for the first time, her gossamer touch for dry, observational comedy, which has complemented her uncanny feel for milieus of indolence ever since, Coppola presents a story of intergenerational almost-romance that remains as fragile, frank, and intimate as it felt in 2003.
Tickets: $15 / $11 senior and students / $9 youth (ages 3–17) / free for MoMI members at the Senior/Student level and above. Order tickets. Please pick up tickets at the Museum’s admissions desk upon arrival. All seating is general admission. Review safety protocols before your visit.
