Financial problems force a 16-year-old girl who is deaf to leave her progressive Athens school and return to the island where her father lives with his second wife and her son. Once there, she discovers that she must contend with the prejudice and intolerance of her peers and neighbors. When the stability of her family is threatened and her personal relationships are in shambles, she begins the difficult task of ending her own delusions and moving toward forgiveness and reconciliation.
